Low Ground Pressure Excavator Hire — Drumclog Plant

Plant Hire

Specialist machines for soft, sensitive ground.

We have the largest fleet of Low Ground Pressure Excavators in the UK, for projects on soft ground or where environmental impact must be kept to a minimum.

Low Ground Pressure Excavator Hire

Our low ground pressure excavators spread their weight across wide tracks, letting them work peat, marsh, reclaimed land and riverbanks that stop standard plant dead. Drumclog Plant pioneered LGP excavation in Scotland back in 1972, and over fifty years later we still run the largest fleet of it in the UK, from 3 tonne mini machines up to 20 tonne plus heavy diggers, long-reach variants, D6 bulldozers and 10 tonne tracked dump trucks.

Every machine is fitted with handrails, seatbelt warnings, rear-view cameras, load check valves, fuel tank overflow warnings, double-lock quick hitches, engine guarding and height restrictors as standard. Where the job calls for it, we fit tilt rotators, tilting hitches, V buckets, timber grabs, hammers, shears or wackers. Our operators are trained specifically for hazardous ground conditions, and we offer a free site survey before you commit, so you get the right machine and track width for your ground, not just whatever is free that week.

Why choose Drumclog Plant

  • UK's largest LGP fleet (3t to 20t+)
  • Track pads of 900mm, 1200mm or 1500mm for ground bearing pressure as low as 1.2 tonnes/m²
  • Operated or self-drive, UK-wide mobilisation
  • Free site surveys and soft ground consultancy

How it works

Step 1

Free site survey

We visit or review your site photos to assess ground conditions and access before recommending a machine.

Step 2

Machine matched to ground

We select track width and machine weight for the lowest safe ground bearing pressure for your job.

Step 3

Delivery or self-drive

Mobilised on our own low loaders, with an operator or as self-drive hire, UK-wide.

Step 4

De-bogging back-up

If ground conditions change on site, our own machine recovery team is on call as standard.

LGP Excavators — frequently asked questions

What is a low ground pressure excavator?+

A low ground pressure (LGP) excavator uses extra-wide tracks to spread its weight over a larger area, reducing the pressure it puts on the ground. This lets it work on peat, marsh, reclaimed land and other soft or sensitive ground that would bog down a standard excavator.

What size LGP excavators do you have?+

Our fleet ranges from 3 tonne mini excavators up to 20 tonne plus machines, plus long-reach variants, D6 bulldozers and 10 tonne tracked dump trucks, with track pads of 900mm, 1200mm or 1500mm depending on the ground.

Can I hire an LGP excavator without an operator?+

Yes. We offer both operated hire and self-drive hire, depending on what suits your project and your own team's experience with tracked plant.

What happens if a machine gets bogged on my site?+

Our own 24/7 machine recovery service is on call as standard for anything we have on hire, with a 100% recovery record to date.

Do you offer a free site survey before hire?+

Yes, we can visit site or review photos and a location to recommend the right machine and track width before you commit to a hire.
